New Jersey is a no go (So Far, Never Surrender), I called the NJ DMV main office and they called a DMV location near me and they came back and told me that the brand name was not on their list (What a Joke), I tried to tell them it was a kit and asked if there was any way to register a kit bike they said no because that is one thing they are strict on is motorcycles (Another Laugh), I also tried the scooter approach with no avail. But I can build a boat trailer in my driveway with no DOT certification and register that and drag 4000 lbs of fiberglass and metal down the highway at high speeds.
They allow me the register my Panda 49cc and plate that why is this bike not allowed or not on their list? If they made the Kikker 5150 Hardknock DOT for all states which wouldn't be hard to do as far as making it street legal. I'm not sure what's involved as far as doing something like that for a company that builds bikes but I do know that there are tons of bike builders out there that sell street legal bikes they build, how do they all do it? I'm sure the price may rise a bit but people would still buy them and to tell you the truth sales I think would more then cover the costs involved if they were made street legal.
Sorry for the long post but I'm very disappointed because I'm stuck in this crappy state where my small business is located and everything is illegal unless the state says otherwise. Their slowly stripping us of all our freedom.
Maybe I'll need to move to Iraq so I can ride a Hardknock with a semi-automatic weapon strapped on my back to enjoy myself.
Please email me if anyone has any other info for NJ. I need to get one but only have a use for it if I can make it street legal, besides the fun of building it.
