After going round and round with the State of Georgia, I decided to go the out-of-state transfer title route. I got my title from a forum member. So, with title, tag/title application form, insurance card, and driver's license in hand, I went to my local DMV. And then I went to the next furthest one. And the next one...

All four of my County's offices told me the same thing. I needed to fill out two more forms and bring the bike up for inspection. (Each person I talked with was very polite. Each one called the main State office).

Doesn't sound too bad, right? The forms are minor. However, I see two problems. One, Georgia now requires NHSTA label. Two, I need to sign a statement saying the at the motorcycle was manufactured for lawful highway use in the US (and if you use an MSO it has to have that statement on it).

So, I have now officially spent more time trying to get legal then I did building my bike. Very close to calling it a day, selling the bike, and building something else based on a basket-case.

This is coming up more and more often. For those Dr. Who fans, I hear the cloister bell ringing.

And Kikker never ran into the Georgia State Patrol or the six different local jurisdictions I drive through on my way to work (even though the Milton police dept. only has one car).

And as a school teacher, it wouldn't really set a good example to get caught (and believe me, with my luck it would just be a matter of time).

And I can just imagine what the fines would be.

And I've worked too hard on this bike to have it confiscated (which I understand happens. Hmmm wonder if they auction off the confiscated bikes....)

Oh well, too cold to ride here right now anyway (yeah, I've turned into a wussy Southerner)

So, photo-shop that on the MSO.

the sad part is, maybe i did luck out. the only way i can think to make it happen for you bud is to drive up my way and we'll see if my luck holds up.
another idea, sell it to me for a $1.00, i'll try to get it titled and sell it back to you for a $1.
maybe. i'm willing to try to help us GA knocks any way i can.
good weather is coming up fast. lets try and make this happen.

He helped me get the out-of-state title. Saved me from doing the inspection and custom-built hassle.

Doesn't help with the NHTSA stuff. I haven't given up yet. But there has got to be an easier way. I've e-mailed some of the custom builders in the area (like Hank Young) to see how they are doing it.

Maybe I am out of left field here or beating a dead/dying horse but wouldnt special construction make you exempt from NHTSA? How do the "Chopper" shops around there do it? Maybe you could get a little advise from a shop that makes full customs?
Another thing that works for me A LOT is basically telling the DMV ladies what to do,
DMV lady: "OK you will need an inspection"
Me : "Nope its exempt from that"
DMV: "??"
Me: " Yeah its a special construction scooter, I just need you to refer me to the CHP for VIN assignment"
DMV: "Oh OK"

I am serious it has worked 9/10 times, one time it didnt but I just got back in line and it worked on the next lady!

Either way, Good Luck DW, let me know if I can be of any help

Georgia has now lumped salvage/rebuild/custom/etc into one big category. First two are fairly straight forward (keep original docs, keep list of all replaced parts, get inspected at one of the limited number of authorized inspection stations).

How do the custom shops do it? So far what I have found out is that they are federally licensed manufacturers. Or they aren't saying how they do it. But you walk out of their shop with title and tags.

Did find out today that I can go into any GA state office for the title, but I have to go to one of my county offices for the tags. So, I may head toward Doc's part of the state
