I'm not saying that carb you have is bad, just that it is a oem style, copied off a honda xr 200 carb, the one I mentioned above will give you way more flow, and ponies.

Dammit. I got a crapy carb. Basically just like the stock one. I'm going to return it and buy a performance carb. Thanks for the info.

this is what you want
http://cgi.ebay.com/Mikuni-VM26-74-Round-Slide-Single-Carburetor-carb-26 mm_W0QQitemZ260121364053QQihZ016QQcategoryZ776QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQc mdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247

Alocal shop might have one laying around in the shop too, might even get it for cheap.

Remeber though that your local bike shop can help you also, with everybody shoping on the web there is a big dent in the local shops, they might have to cahrge a tiny bit more, but if you spend time and money at a local shop generally they will help you out when you need it. at my shop we have to clear 7,000 dollars amounth profit just to pay expenses. that not anyones sallery or parts orders that just keeps the doors open. so remeber with out local customer bike shop will suffer. this is not dirrected at anyone, it is a general thought and reminder that the web is great, but you get what you pay for. cheap parts, and no personal service. buy local and you get good parts and personal service.

Man those websites are a bit pricey!! Do you think the "mikuni" carbs off Ebay for $45 are good?? They seem too cheap to be real Mikuni's ....maybe they are knock offs....either way do you think they have the performance characteristics I'm looking for over the basically stock one I ordered??

look at the one in the add I posted, real mikuni carbs will run 45 plus used and in the hundreds new. dont buy anything that says it for a pit bike or a honda 50 upgrade, and yes those sites are pricy. but they are the best. I might even have a carb laying around, let me look today. I will also send you a price from my supplier. but I warn you they do not give these away. the money you put in to these parts is very dependent on what you want out of them. I understand not wanting to pay 200.00 bones for a carb that way I said used is ok! it really depends on what you want out of a price/preformance ratio.

and carbs do wear out the better the carb the longer it lasts. you want made in japan not made in china, all china does is steal the big four ideas and makes them with crappy metal

Got the carb in today...took about a half hour to put on not counting having to run to Home Depot for two bolts since the carb is obviously not pre-threaded to run the stock bolts......

I unknowingly bought a carb very similar to the stock carb...not a "performance" carb.....it's opening is 26mm at the intake but it gets narrower as it approaches the throttle slide area....unlike a Mikuni which stays fat all the way through...oh well......

I had to reverse the intake to face it forward so it would fit (it wouldn't clear over the electric starter on top of the engine)...

I took it around the block a couple of times....didn't really notice much of a difference....I think it's running a little lean....that might be why I'm not experiencing much gain in power....I'll adjust it tomorrow so I don't wake up the neighbors tonight.

One difference I did notice though.....

It starts up cold just fine....my old carb for some reason I always had problems starting it in the morning or after not ridining it a while....I may not have had it adjusted properly but it just seemed to be a little bitchy when waking up....

The new carb starts the bike up just fine...
