Sounds like too much current for that wire. The wire should be like a 6 or 8 gauge wire, and make sure you have it hooked up right follow the current flow if its hooked up wrong the battery carries a lot current so you want to be sure its right before you give it juice.

I got it working! I grounded to the wrong place. I found in the wiring schematics the proper ground place. It seems to be working now. No smoke!

Finally heard my Knock roar!! It sounds way better than I thought it would.

mine did the same thing, but it was a ground wire coming all the way from the headlight, it melted it but still don't understand why there was a ground wire from there because the headlight is grounded on the front. The wire was too long of a ground so it would get hotter than hell when you were crankin for a while. I cut it back and capped end and good to go. Been buzzin around ever since. So far thats the only problem I've had, other than a couple of bolts fallin off.
